Dr. Dagnija Lazdina has been involved from the
establishment until now. In connection with the
project, she is the main author of a report, to be
used as a stepping-stone to introducing agroforestry in Latvia.
Our wish is that Silava will advocate agroforestry
systems characterized by a diversity in age, species-composition and structure of trees and shrubs,
with native trees functioning as nurse trees. In such
systems, fertilizers are not needed and would damage the trees’ own ability to absorb nutrients naturally. We also urge them to advocate for systems
that can be operated independently of industrial
inputs, to ensure resilience against economic and
political challenges.
