UNHIDE Agroforestry - A Knowledge Exchange Latvia- Sweden 2023-25 - Report - Page 39
This led us to reflect on how decisions regarding beaver
removal—despite their ecological role—interact with
water dynamics and pasture access in a meat-oriented
production system, where economic viability remains
essential.
To complement local forage resources, the ruminants
receive hay rich in meadow flora from other farms,
thereby functioning as natural seed dispersers.
As the idea of assisted migration of nut trees into natural tree meadows was not taken forward as we had
hoped, the opportunity to explore how nature restoration and agroforestry might intersect at the landscape
level remained unrealized. Likewise, the potential role
of tree fodder—possibly from the same nut trees—as a
supplementary forage resource during summers when
pastures are affected by excess moisture or drought was
not further discussed.
